Classes at OCEH

Green Cleaning class

The Oregon Center for Environmental Health continues our monthly Green Cleaning class. Sign up and come learn to make your own non-toxic cleaners for the kitchen and bath.

Classes are $10 for non-members and $5 for members and require pre-payment. Participants will leave with lots of tips and techniques, and your very own laundry detergent, all-purpose cleaner, and creamy soft scrub for the kitchen and bathroom.

The average American uses about 40 pounds of toxic cleaning products every year. Household cleaning products contain many known dangerous substances, and the cleaning products do not disappear after you use them. Instead, chemical residues linger on your dishes, floors, windows, appliances, bathtubs, even in your household dust. And what does not linger often goes down the drain and ends up in our fish and wildlife.

Not only
can you detoxify your home by switching to green cleaning, they are good for your wallet, too. The average cost for the homemade green cleaners we make in the class is $0.72 each.

Our "EcoSafe Home" Series continues

We have all learned about the hazards of lead and mold, but everyday we are exposed to hundreds of chemicals in our personal care products, cleaners, foods and more. It is crucial that the public is informed on possible exposure to chemicals like Bisphenol-A, Phthalates, Mercury, and PFOA's. For this reason the Oregon Center for Environmental Health has developed our "EcoSafe Home" class. Come join us and learn about why parents and scientists are alarmed by ingredients in everyday products. We will conduct a room by room audit of the home to address alternatives to toxic products. There will also be a question and answer discussion to guide solutions. Each participant will receive a CD-ROM loaded with information on shopping guide tips, web sites to visit, the science behind exposure, recent news articles, and more. The class costs $5 for non-members and is free for members. Pre-payment is required.
